Apart from being a master dealmaker and guru in private equity, Henry Kravis is also known for his prolific giving and dedication to charitable efforts, one of which concerns improvement of education and educational institutions.

Henry Kravis donated a hefty sum of $75 million to alma mater Claremont McKenna College for the construction of a new academic center. He has also contributed generously for the establishment of new buildings in boarding schools, including those of Deerfield Academy, Eaglebrook School and The Loomis Chaffee School.

Kravis also devotes resources to enhance leadership potential and encourage students and teachers alike to become effective leaders. He established the Henry Kravis Leadership Institute at Claremont McKenna College, which provides an excellent curriculum for CMC students to develop their potential in becoming outstanding leaders in the real world. He also created the Henry R. Kravis Prize in Leadership in 2006 to celebrate exceptional individuals who have demonstrated boldness, innovation, creativity, consistency, persistence, and effectiveness in non-profit leadership. The award attaches $250,000 to the winner’s preferred nonprofit organization.

Henry Kravis is one of three co-founders of private equity giant KKR. He obtained a degree in economics from Claremont McKenna College in 1967. Afterwards, he proceeded with his graduate study in business and earned an MBA from the Columbia University in 1969.
