Employers Need to Bring Down Stress Levels During Christmas
Festivals can bring a lot of worries for employees. In many establishments like shops, restaurants, pubs etc, stress levels are really high during festivals like Christmas, because of extra business and more customer footfalls. Even in general, work pressure rises to an unimaginable extent during Christmas. People have to rush to buy gifts for their loved ones or arrange babysitting for their children.
Moreover, in the last one year, the general stress level has risen due to financial worries because of recession and job loss. Financial worries coupled with the rush to finish all preparations for the Christmas season can thus be highly stressful for employees.
This has led to the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) urging employers to help workers in combating stress problems. Commenting on the growing tension, IOSH said that festivals traditionally lead to stress problems and that the situation has become aggravated these days owing to the recessive economy.
According to the president of IOSH, corporate bosses have the responsibility of protecting the workforce from any health-related problem. Though they cannot do away with all the worries faced by their staff members, they can at least help by cutting down the anxiety levels of their employees. This may help largely in solving stress related health problems. Therefore, the IOSH has urged employers to help to the extent they can in protecting the health and well-being of their workers.
